Your New Recycling Service in Calderdale

Your New Recycling Service

To improve the recycling service all across Calderdale and respond to your requests for more waste streams to be recycled, we've introduced some significant changes to the way we collect your waste.

Your weekly collections: The changes include weekly collections for food waste and plastic bottles and fortnightly collections for glass, cans, paper and textiles. For any non-recyclable waste that remains, you have a wheelie bin, where appropriate, which will be emptied once a fortnight. Households who don’t receive a wheelie bin will continue with black plastic sacks.

Your new Food waste collection service: click here to find out how that works

Enter your postcode into the Collection Day Finder to get your collection caldendar for 2009 and for a reminder of which containers to put out when, depending on whether it's 'Week A' or Week B'. Or use the postcode search in the top left corner of this website to see when your collection days are. Scroll down for comprehensive information about Week A and B collections

New bins, bags and boxes: There are new containers for the new service - brown food caddies (one large and one small), white sacks for plastics, and where appropriate a grey wheelie bin. Households already had a recycling box and green bag as part of the previous recycling service. If you don't have all of these containers just email [insert link] or call the Street Care Helpline on 0845 245 7000.

What's collected each week?: The new service works on a fortnightly cycle, where the first week of each cycle (Week A) has collections of food waste, cans, glass bottles and jars and plastic bottles, and the second week of each cycle (Week B) food waste, paper, textiles, plastic bottles and that waste which cannot yet be recycled (refuse).

How to use your food waste caddies

Before the new service starts you will be given two food waste caddies and some compostable liners. You may wish to used the liners inside the small kitchen caddy. Once the smaller caddy is full, put the full liner into the larger caddy.

You should keep the smaller caddy in your house; don’t place it outside for collection. Only place the larger caddy out for collection on the weekly collection day.

Only use the compostable liners provided. Caddies containing any other type of liner will not be emptied as this will contaminate the entire consignment of food waste.

Please do not put any packaging in the food waste caddies.

Please use your food caddy for all of your cooked or uncooked food waste including:

Any type of food leftovers, meat, vegetables, cereals, bread, rice, pasta, peelings, bones.

Please do not use your kitchen caddy for any animal food or animal waste. Contaminated loads of food waste are rejected by the composting site and sent to landfill.
