General information
Compost is formed through the breakdown of organic material, a great deal of which is disposed of regularly in our household bins. Indeed, 40% of household waste could be composted, but instead is landfilled and as such is a major cause of methane, a potent greenhouse gas, as it breaks down in landfill. So the more that we compost, the less we need to landfill and the lower the methane emissions and damage to the ozone layer.
