The Calderdale and Bradford shared waste treatment project

Waste Disposal

Calderdale Council is working with Bradford Council for a long term alternative to landfill for disposal of waste.
Householders in Calderdale produce around 90,000 tonnes of waste every year of which over 40% is recycled. This is a big percentage increase in recycling following the introduction of the new recycling service in April 2009. But we want to do even better and at the moment a lot of our waste ends up in landfill sites.
A 25 year arrangement is proposed, providing for the treatment of up to 50,000 tonnes of waste from Calderdale and approximately 200,000 tonnes per year from neighbouring Bradford Council.
